Dr. Bender serves on the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation, is highly involved in the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce, and belongs to the Fort Atkinson Optimist and Rotary clubs.

Dr. Kind is involved with the Fort Atkinson High School athletic boosters and farming organizations such as agribusiness and Jefferson County Fair Park beef superintendent.

Dr. Stafford developed and leads a science club for 1st-4th grade students. She also belongs to the Fort Atkinson Science Fair Board and is an ambassador for the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce.
Our Treatment Philosophy
As a patient at BKS Dental, your health is our primary focus. We educate you on all of your options so that you and your doctor can decide on a course of treatment tailored to your specific needs.
Because we are out-of-network with insurance companies, decisions about which services and treatments you choose are not impacted by a third party such as an insurance company. You are in control.

- Common misconception: “You don’t take my insurance”
We accept most insurance companies and will file those claims for you as normal. There are a few insurance networks that we cannot file insurance with; you are always welcome to call and confirm your particular insurance company with us.
- What does “Out-of-Network” mean versus In-Network?
In-Network. The dentist signs a contract with the insurance company. This contract not only dictates reimbursement for treatment but also treatment policies that may restrict the care the dentist is able to provide.
Out-of-Network. The dentist opts out of signing any insurance company contracts. This allows the doctor and patient to decide on the best services/treatment for their care. Most patients have policies that give them the option to see the provider of their choice. Many of these plans pay the same percentage of benefits whether you are in or out of the network.
- What do I do with the insurance payment check that’s mailed to me?
Go ahead and deposit that payment into your account and then you can use those funds toward your balance due.
- How does this change affect me?
You will now be utilizing the out-of-network benefits your insurance provides. These benefits may be the same, less, or more based on the employer-selected plan. You may or may not notice a small increase in patient balance.
- When does this change start?
This will be effective for Delta Dental on Feb 1, 2024, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield on Oct 26, 2023 and Dec 26, 2023 based on your plan, and United Concordia on Nov 19, 2023.
- Where do I verify my benefit coverage?
Every insurance company provides a patient portal for you to utilize to check the status of your benefits at any time. (On the back of your card (if available) there is a toll free number to call for assistance).
- Why did you decide to make this change to Out-of-Network?
We want to continue to serve our patients with the excellent care we’ve always provided. To maintain this best practice, we chose to opt out of signing any insurance contracts, making us an out-of-network provider. We feel it’s very important that you and your doctor decide your care and course of treatment and not have this decision impacted by a third party such as an insurance company.
